Phoenix, AZ, December 3, 2010 - In a move to meet the exploding growth toward sustainable technology, The Refrigeration School (RSI), has added solar training to their existing program offerings. This training combines lecture and hands-on lab exercises where students will be instructed on photovoltaic (PV) science and an introduction to the fundamentals of solar energy.

Staying true to its core course offerings, RSI has integrated solar installation and design as it relates to residential and commercial climate control systems, as well as electrical grid applications. The course specifically covers the scope of solar energy systems’ conceptual, mechanical, and electrical design, with an emphasis on wiring and electrical issues. RSI began teaching solar as part of their programs earlier this year and has now extended it to a 100 hour course this November.

RSI offers two programs that include the solar curriculum. Electro-Mechanical Technologies, a 9 month program, and an AOS in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering which is a 15 month program offering an Occupational Associates degree. Both programs are offering morning, afternoon, and evening class sessions to provide flexibility to students.

RSI has been training technicians in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry in Phoenix since 1965. In the 80’s they added residential and commercial electrical wiring to their course offerings, providing students with an even larger skill set to prepare them for both installation and service careers.
