HVAC Professionals

Environmental conservation and energy efficiency are major concerns for Americans. The costs of heating and cooling continue to soar, and people are increasingly interested in energy- and cost-saving heating and cooling technologies. RSI refrigeration, heating, and cooling students understand the latest, environmentally friendly HVAC systems inside and out. They also possess the critical thinking skills necessary to install and troubleshoot these systems. As the population of the United States continues to grow, especially in the southern and western regions of the nation, job opportunities will always be numerous.

HVAC, air conditioner, refrigeration installers and technicians are some of the most common job opportunities for heating and cooling specialists. On the job, technicians are responsible for installing systems; upgrading systems to environmental standards; and possibly, maintaining heating and cooling systems. They may start out as assistants to installers or repair technicians, and then work up to full-time careers in the heating and cooling field.

Another job possibility is air quality controller. In this profession, controllers will sample and assess air quality; install or upgrade air quality sampling systems; and ensure compliance with state mercury and greenhouse emissions limits. They may also spend time writing reports or meeting with elected officials. This is a good career choice for someone who likes problem-solving.

We help you do that through self-assessment and identification of your skills, and then help you present that in a fashion employers relate to. We will also focus on the type of working environment you prefer, your core values and other features that make you unique. We have found that people who find their "perfect career" in the shortest time frame are those who are able to match their background and personal traits to those of an employer.

Other job possibilities in this field include HVAC equipment sales, which requires workers to enjoy speaking with the public; to possess good customer service skills; and to understand the latest heating and cooling technologies. Management positions, including sales manager, field supervisor, and project manager opportunities, are always present, as well. Some graduates even land jobs as HVAC designers.

Electrical Technologies Professionals

As population growth booms across the United States, new office towers and apartment complexes spring up in American cities. Electrical professionals are necessary in all stages of the building process. Electricians install underground cables during the initial building stages; find temporary power sources for tools; and, finally, are responsible for installing wiring, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, outlets, and power sources. Jobs can be found in all kinds of work environments, ranging from large electrical installation companies to small, private contracting firms.

According to an article published by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, homeowners typically spend about $180 billion annually remodeling their homes. Electricians can find contract work at all stages of the home remodeling process. Their work can be as simple as installing a socket, or as complex as re-wiring an entire, large home. During the home-building process, electrical professionals will work on intricate forms of wiring, such as telephone line installation, Internet hookups, intercom and buzzer systems, and so forth.

Zoning and rental code changes at the local government level necessitate that buildings with faulty wiring or circuitry be fixed. Electricians need to be on the scene to help keep buildings in compliance with city law, and to prevent those buildings from being condemned. Maintenance electricians, especially those in large cities, generally have an easy time finding electrical upgrade and repair work. Electricians who work on apartment complexes are also responsible for repairing circuit breakers and fuses.

Completing an electrical technologies course of study at the Refrigeration School, Inc. prepares workers to understand the ins and outs of the electrical technology field. This is a career that involves hands-on work, as well as plenty of testing, trouble-shooting, and problem solving. Certified professionals who have both classroom and on-site experience are often considered first for salary increases. They can also enter management careers in the electrical technology field, or work as electrical consultants to large corporations and firms.

Opportunities With Cross-Training

With the Electro-Mechanical Technologies and/or Mechanical Maintenance courses of study, students can begin challenging careers in a wider number of fields. Because such students are trained in complex HVAC and electrical procedures and manipulations, they are able to seek work as lead maintenance technicians; industrial maintenance or building engineers; or managers of large and complex heating, cooling, or wiring projects. Employees who have training in several different fields are more versatile employees. They often have an easier time finding jobs, and are good candidates for supervisory positions on major building projects or at consulting firms.
