The Refrigeration School, Inc. (RSI) was honored to appear and testify before the Arizona Senate Committee on Education and the Arizona House Committee on Government and Higher Education on Thursday, February 26, 2015. RSI was represented by Campus President Steve Malutich and two RSI graduates, Doug Siebels and Chris Watt. Doug, who works for Parker and Sons, testified before members of the Senate committee, and Chris, an instructor at RSI, testified before the House committee. This testimony was part of a larger presentation by the Arizona Private School Association (APSA) on private, post-secondary education in Arizona. APSA has been the recognized voice for Private Postsecondary Education since 1967.

RSI remarks included that the school has been training students to be entry-level heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technicians for 50 years. Additionally, Steve Malutich commented that RSI does this without using any Arizona tax dollars, and that RSI is pleased to be able to support needed workforce training in Arizona and other states while positively changing the lives of its graduates. Steve notes, “It was a privilege to appear before the committees and represent RSI and the Arizona Private School Association. I hope the committee members gained an understanding of what we do to support the workforce needs of Arizona and how private, proprietary higher educational institutions serve a vital role in our state and nation.”

RSI graduates Doug and Chris commented to the committee members on the experience of attending a private, proprietary post-secondary school, including the advantage of participating in intense, accelerated programs with lots of hands-on skills training, small class sizes, convenient class schedules, and full-time career services teams to assist with resume preparation, interview skills, and graduate employment assistance.

RSI has been training technicians in Phoenix, Arizona, since 1965 and has many services to offer students, such as financial aid for those who qualify and graduate employment assistance. Curriculum includes training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R), solar technologies, and residential and commercial electrical wiring. RSI also offers an Associate of Occupational Studies in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering degree program.
